Hyatt Place Kansas City/Lenexa City Center

We ended up at this hotel by chance booking on a website that randomly assigns hotels. It was FANTASTIC. The staff is exceptional. Rooms are clean, amenities are great. I didn’t hear any sounds from other guests the entire 4 day stay, while we were in our room. The breakfast had gluten and dairy free options, with oat milk along with the dairy milk. Nice touches to not make having dietary restrictions such a hassle when travelling. Everything was fresh, hot. I would recommend this to anyone in the area.

Decent size room. Pool is refreshing and nice. Service is terrific the personnel there are helpful. Suggestion: ask for the side of the hotel that faces the city center…not the highway. Late at night if a sport bike is zipping 100mph on the highway or a vehicle with loud exhaust flies by the hotel on the highway you’ll hear it I promise. Heard the occasional croch rockets rip by late at night, but at least we didn’t hear our neighbors. Breakfast was very average for a hotel breakfast. They try to make it look all fancified in the pictures but it’s just fast food French toast sticks and basic sausage links and airplaneesque bland scrambled eggs. I should have just had cereal and called it good with that and some fruit. $3 coors light tall boys was a surprisingly reasonable deal at the bar which is open until midnight. They even had reasonably priced milk available for our baby (open all night) at the amply supplied service counter.

The rooms are nice and the breakfast is ok to good. I wouldn't consider the breakfast great. The front desk is nice and somewhat helpful but I would avoid this place on weekends in the summer. The place is crawling with little league baseball teams and some very poor supervision. We tried to enjoy the pool as a family but we couldn't because it filled with preteen boys and no parents. We bailed and I mentioned it to the lady at the front desk and she said there's nothing she can do she's alone at the desk. Parents raise your kids to be more polite and considerate to others and Hyatt I'd ban letting teams stay at your hotel.

I know the hotel business is not easy. I speak from experience travelling the world. Overall, the customer service in the US is so low so low that's it's shameful to have this in a so called 'developed' country. This hotel however stood out. I'm a Globalist but have been treated with absolute disrespect and been spoken to just plain rudely and in many instances condescending way so in the US, my expectations are super super super low. This was a pit stop for us for the night on our way from Denver to Chicago (yeah, we took the long route as I had to have the Kansas City bbq). It was over the 4th of July weekend and the weather from Denver itself was bad. My wife was not feeling the best and I knew this will be a loooooong drive as compared to any other day. I had booked a non refundable rate but still reached out to the hotel (didn't share anything about my status) and asked if there was any possibility to reschedule it for the next day should my wife not feel better. I forget the name of the person I spoke to since it's been 3 weeks now (shame on me) but she was one of the nicest person I've spoken to at a Hyatt Place in the United States. She went above and beyond and said they would be able to accommodate my request. I ended the call saying I will give my wife 2 hours to see how she feels before I make the decision and will reach out. She said she's there till 3 so that will not be a problem. I was now debating if I should drive in the weather (hailing, then rain, then hail again then sunshine then rain again). My wife started feeling better so we decided to leave. This person at the hotel proactively reached out to me at 2:45 to confirm and said if she doesn't hear back, they will assume I am coming but if not, I should call and let them know because that reschedule option is still on the table. This is customer service; really caring about your customer in a situation that the customer is trying to make the best of and the staff is trying to make that one thing less difficult for you. Thank you Hyatt Place; I'm so sorry I forgot your name but if you are reading this, you worked the phones on June 30. On our way, I knew we ain't making it before 2 am (time zone change plus the rains) so I called and spoke to the staff and they assured me that won't be a problem at all. We arrived and our keys were ready. I had already done an online check in so it was a breeze. The room as other reviews have said was immaculate. It was one of the cleanest Hyatt Place's I have stayed at in the US. I wish all the Hyatt Places would have this level of service and cleanliness. Each year, we do this trip from Denver to Chicago and this is the Hyatt Place we'll always be staying at.
